The continuing demand for increased capacity through our rail depots is resulting in a trend to growing amounts of maintenance being carried out on sidings and stabling roads. This is resulting in staff working in potentially dangerous areas, where historically there has not been a need for depot protection.
The Chingford Sidings have been the most recent to invest in protecting the staff outside of the traditional maintenance shed.
Staff cleaning the vehicles stabled on the Chingford sidings roads are now protected by Zonegreen’s advanced interlocking technology. Access to high level and nose end platforms is prohibited whilst the OLE is live, and indications of the status of the OLE are provided so that staff can easily identify the potential risk.
A manual derailer is installed to offer physical protection to staff from vehicle movements. The derailer is also interlocked with the OLE to prevent vehicles being able to bridge isolated sections of the OLE.
