Zonegreen has installed a single Points Converter at Portsmouth’s Fratton Depot, protecting staff from the hazards associated with manual hand points located adjacent to the third rail.
The Points Converter attaches to an existing manual point, to automate it and enable remote operation. The unit has been installed at Fratton on a switch located on one of the entrance roads into the depot, allowing the points to now be controlled remotely from a key switch panel in the shunter’s cabin. The ability to operate the point remotely mitigates the risks also associated with live third rail and slips, trips and falls.
The system has also been future- proofed, to enable further converters to be installed if the depot wishes to automate other points and set routes.
